the powers that be have made such a caricature of magik, that many of us have been convinced it is this rare anointing by god herself that is only experienced by a lucky few.
we pedestalize those who display a pristine connection to the divine, blindly following, and asking for the secrets of the universe.
we make western science the standard of truth, ignoring our own reality, seeking approval from systems that dismiss our body’s advanced technology and encourage the idea of “impossible”.
but with each course, certification and degree, I am only brought closer to my inner child. the one who watched abuela talk to the plants to help them grow, and listened to my mom channel love with perfect pitch, and witnessed my father predict 9/11 and the boy who would break my heart in the summer of ‘06, three years after his passing.
the truth is that I paid, and was awarded scholarships for the credibility of a professional certification as a full spectrum doula, a reiki master teacher, and an herbalist.
but this shit is my birthright. and yours too.
